Who dat? Who dat? I-G-G-Y with a new single! I don’t think most people expected to hear anything new from the Aussie rapper after her tumultuous 2016 but it looks like Iggy Azalea is back and ready to twerk her way back to the charts. Twitter trolls and general hate from the public definitely took a toll on Azalea’s well being and career but I had hope the “Fancy” hitmaker would realize the unique niche she had in the game and get back to doing what she loved.
It was so easy to root for ‘Mixtape Iggy’, dropping rap/electronic hybrid bops and her chill personality in radio interviews and it looks like she’s returned to her fan favorite form with her latest single “Mo Bounce”. The highly repetitive banger has Iggy rhyming over an intoxicating, drum heavy beat produced by The Stereotypes and Far East Movement. Azalea sounds good on the verses but I enjoy the build up to the hook the most when she announces, “When the shit goes down / The block get loud / In your backyard bumpin’ while we’re blazing out / Make it bounce in the motherfuckin’ house / mo bounce in the motherfuckin’ house.”
“Mo Bounce” definitely goes off (especially with a few drinks in your system) and I can picture a room of party people taking advantage of this track made for the dancefloor. With this new heat and her previous underrated single “Team”, I’m excited to hear Iggy’s forthcoming Digital Distortion and hear how her sound has transitioned with her time away from the spotlight. During an interview with Zane Lowe, Iggy mentioned missing her mixtape sound and returning to electronic production and I would love to hear more edgy cuts that build upon her Ignorant Art and Trap Gold catalogue. It seems like Azalea has the recipe for success, we just need to see if the masses are willing to give it another taste.
