The Girls From ‘Chasing Destiny’ Officially Have A Name and Debut Single

The girls from Chasing Destiny officially have a name and a debut single to go with it! On June 24th Gabby, Ashly, Kristal, Breanna and Shyann hopped on a Facebook live chat to answer fan questions and make a few announcements for the weekend. We now know the name for the group is *drum roll* June’s Diary! With June being a very meaningful time for the group and the girls writing their journey as they go along, I can understand the reasoning behind the name. As long as they continue to use those powerful voices I’m content. Alongside the name reveal, and excitement about attending and performing at this years BET Awards; June’s Diary also announced that new music was coming very soon.

Later that day their debut single “L.A.N.C.E.” dropped and it’s just as playful as their previous records (“All of Us”, “It’s Alright”) while adding a little bite with the acronym. A L.A.N.C.E. will now be known as a “Lying Ass Nigga Cheating Everyday” and the girls are spilling the tea on why you should avoid this type of guy on the hunt. At initial listen I was slightly disappointed that “L.A.N.C.E” didn’t have strong crossover radio appeal. Don’t get me wrong, all artists don’t need to follow the R&B infused pop blueprint but I think June’s Diary has a lot of commercial appeal so I want them to have the best opportunity to do succeed on a mainstream level from the jump. Like with most songs, after a couple listens I was down with the Anti-L.A.N.C.E. movement and I can appreciate the trap lite single for what it is. While “L.A.N.C.E.” isn’t really showcasing their vocals, not every song has to be full of powerful belts and runs. Sometimes a little fun is needed, and I’m positive June’s Diary will have a lot of time to release music with a plethora of different sounds, speeds and genres. Patience is difficult when waiting for new music always but always key so hopefully the wait for a full-length June’s Diary won’t be too excruciating.
