Before millions of viewers fell in love with the regular degular shmegular girl from the bronx, Cardi B commanded attention through social media and used her honesty to build a career. Whether you watch her give advice to women to not get played by men through her Instagram rants or laugh as she hilariously lives through the scripted situations on Love & Hip Hop, you can’t deny the appeal and Cardi has some talent to go with it. On March 7th of this year Cardi dropped her debut mixtape Gangsta Bitch Music Vol 1 and received a lot of love and sighs of relief that she wasn’t another reality show “artist” trying to expand her 15 minutes. Gangsta Bitch Music Vol 1 shows an artist that has a lot of potential with the ability to drop hot club singles (“Foreva”, “Washpoppin”) and also use her rough past to create songs with a little more substance (“I Gotta Hurt You”, “Selfish”). 

Now that the world knows Cardi B is serious about her rap endeavors, I think the performer has the potential to make some real noise on the commercial rap scene and continue raking in her shmoney. “What A Girl Likes” is the latest single that’s being pushed by Cardi and her team and I’m definitely feeling the straightforward bop. Over busy production with a nice knock, Cardi B lets us know it’s all about the money. The fun wordplay on “What A Girl Likes”and Cardi B’s polished flow makes this track a nice representation of what she has to offer. I like hearing Cardi on songs like this and “Foreva”so I hope I continue to hear her grow on her next project.
