Ariana Grande Is Feeling Empowered On New Single ‘Dangerous Woman’

Ariana Grande is officially back with a new attitude, look and music to make you feel like your most confident, dangerous self. “Dangerous Woman” is the first single and also the name of her upcoming album and it feels like a sexy departure from her previous hits that consistently found a place on the charts over the last three years. After teasing fans for weeks with bite size snippets and Instagram posts of Grande’s idea of a dangerous woman, the effortless R&B number packs a nice punch and has the triple threat embracing a mature sound for this upcoming era.

“Dangerous Woman” begins with a slinky electric guitar creating the moody backdrop for Ariana to let us know she’s in control and feels powerful with or without a significant other, “Don’t need permission / Made my decision to test my limits.” What comes next is the most satisfying hook I’ve heard from the “Break Free” songstress so far as the adrenaline kicks in and the song picks up momentum. The contrast between the calm verses and captivating hook gives “Dangerous Woman” the right amount of addiction and the content within is definitely making a statement.

When “Focus” dropped last year we got to see a more confident pop star giving us full out choreography and solid performances but listeners didn’t want to repeat history with a single that sounded too similar to “Problem”. They needed to hear Ari evolve and push herself and I think “Dangerous Woman” definitely does that. I’m ready to see how AG promotes this single and the overall growth to be found in her third album. I enjoyed most of the cuts on her sophomore effort My Everything but it felt like the album was a skelton of fillers and smash hits without a story or sense of cohesiveness so let’s hope third times the charm.

Ariana Grande is already staring the promotion ride for Dangerous Woman doing interviews and working double duty this weekend on SNL as this week’s host and performer. Look out for her SNL appearance on tonight and her third album Dangerous Woman dropping May 20th 2016.

honored and beyond excited to be host & musical guest tomorrow night @nbcsnl !!
