Zedd’s debut album Clarity, released in 2012 was my first dive into the electronic music genre. I liked a few singles and appreciated the genre but I hadn’t got into a full album before Zedd’s release. Full of storming production, impressive singers and extremely catchy songs, I’m a huge fan of the musician and was excited to hear a sophomore effort.
“I Want You To Know” is the first single off his new album and it features pop star/girlfriend Selena Gomez. Freely judge me but I’m actually a fan of Gomez’s music. Apparently I’m not the only one with numerous smash singles. (I remember a time where I couldn’t get into a car without hearing “Come and Get It” at least once). Co-written by Zedd, Ryan Tedder (OneRepublic) and KDrew, “I Want You to Know” plays like a formulaic hit that was made to be a part of Billboard’s Hot 100 Chart. There’s nothing wrong with that by the way. I love hearing music from all genres and varying popularity but this single seems kind of safe and similar to some of the music that can be found on Clarity.
Zedd and Selena Gomez work well together on this track and I’d like to hear some more music from both of them. While I wait for another Zedd album, I hope that he continues to challenge himself when it comes to his music. Either way I’ll most likely play the fuck out of the music anyway.
