Is Anti-Cool Kid Jaden Smith the Future of Rap?

When I look at the teens growing up today it makes me wish I could re-visit my younger years with a different idea of what it means to be “cool”.

Jaden was only 14 when he founded the MSFTS brand with his group of friends. Some see the minimal line as just clothes but its more than that, MSFTS is a lifestyle that so many youth relate with even though they aren’t the rich kids repping it in black and white photos on instagram. I think the message behind this brand is to be yourself and look past what’s popular because all of that trendy shit will die out in a couple months. I may be looking way too into MSFTS but the seeing Jaden try to make a name for himself outside the obvious prominence of having Will and Jada as his parents by doing his own thing is something I can definitely co-sign.

Apparently I’m not the only one digging this kid’s vision with artists like Childish Gambino admiring the type of artist Jaden is becoming and if you haven’t got on the wave yet, it’s never too late to join.

Jaden released a short visual for “Fast”, a hard knocking, minimal track with some fiery bars about the girl of Jaden’s dreams.

Livin’ my life like a fantasy
Sleep with the girl like my dreams on the weeks
So I sleep and I see my reality

I wonder if this is the same girl that he met at coachella that he couldn’t confess his feelings for because she was with a blow dealer. On a much longer track Blue Ocean V19, Jaden’s story telling is like a hybrid cross of Drake & Gambino with a cooler vibe. With rhymes like this at 16, there’s no where to go but up for Jaden’s music career and I can’t wait to hear his second mixtape “The Cool Cafe: Cool Tape Vol. 2″ that currently has no release date. I think I may need to revisit Vol. 1
