And I’ll never give myself to another, the way I gave it to you
Don’t even recognize the ways you hit me, do you?
It’s gonna take a miracle to bring me back
And you’re the one to blameRihanna is known for creating albums back to back with hits that you can’t help but hear everywhere so it’s surprising to not hear anything new from her this year besides her collab with Eminem. With rumors brewing of Rihanna gearing up to release her eighth album “very soon” I thought that I would throwback a track that didn’t get as much love as it should have when it came out in 2008.
“Rehab” featuring Justin Timberlake came out in a re-release of RiRi’s third album “Good Girl Gone Bad” and it showcases the vulnerable Rihanna that we didn’t hear too much from until the release of her fourth album “Rated R”. Rihanna may not have the strongest voice but she knows how to captivate emotion and a sense of loneliness or yearning for love that anyone can relate too when they hear it (“Stay” is a perfect example, and all of “Rated R” is an even greater example).
The midtempo ballad produced by Timbaland has this backbeat that works perfectly with the instrumental groove through out. Timbaland is a genius so it’s no surprise that the beat is dope but the collaboration with Timberlake is definitely overlooked and I would love to hear Rihanna do more songs with him.
I love songs that make me feel something whenever I hear them and “Rehab” still does for it me. While I wait for the next album I think I’ll have to revisit “Good Girl Gone Bad” and “Rated R” and vibe out to some more of Rihanna’s emotions.
