Nicki Minaj ditches the Anaconda for a personal moment on “Bed of Lies” featuring Skylar Grey

It seems like “variety” is the theme of Nicki Minaj’s third album “The Pink Print”. With a release date of December 15th and a slew of singles (Pills n’ Potion, Anaconda, Only) there is a lot of anticipation from fans and haters that are waiting for their chance to trash it. The bar is definitely set high with Minaj stating “The Pink Print” will be the album that female rappers will pattern themselves with. There is obviously some Hov influence with references from “The Blueprint” and what that meant for rap so Minaj has to have a classic album with those type of comparisons.

From the singles we’ve heard so far, my expectations aren’t at “The Blueprint” level but Minaj’s new single “Bed of Lies” featuring Skylar Grey may be the track that will start to change my mind. Over a piano driven, somber beat, “Bed of Lies” gives me similar feels that can be felt on “Save Me” one of Minaj’s most personal tracks from her debut album “Pink Friday”.

Hearing Minaj rap about her issues during a ‘fraud’ relationship gives listeners some insight on what’s been going on in her life. The song is a refreshing change of pace from disappointing “Only” and gives me hope that Minaj is spitting some type of substance on the new album.

I’m excited to finally hear “The Pink Print” in December. Hopefully “Bed of Lies” does well so Minaj’s team doesn’t feel the need to push back the album again.
